National sanitation policy prepared

16 Mar, 2006

The ministry of environment has prepared the National Sanitation Policy in consultation with all the relevant stakeholders including provincial governments and the civil society organisations.
The ministry held meetings and consultative workshops involving stakeholders and finalised the draft following the views and comments from concerned federal and provincial government agencies.
The policy is intended to guide and support the provincial and district governments in framing their own sanitation-related strategies, plans and programmes.
A background paper for consultation was prepared and sent to provinces for stakeholders' consultations.
The consultation workshops were convened in the provinces wherein the stakeholders including the representatives of the federal and provincial government, NGOs and civil society organisations deliberated on the policy documents and comments were incorporated in the draft policy document.
The second draft sanitation policy has been hosted at the website of the Ministry of Environment and Sacosan-2: www.environment.govt.pk/sacosan-2005 for soliciting further views and comments by March 25, 2006 to Jawed Ali Khan, Sacosan Co-ordinator, Ministry of Environment, Government of Pakistan.
