Former Foreign Minister Gohar Ayub Khan has said that all matters relating to Bhasha-Diamir dam should be settled at the earliest to ensure early completion of the project.
Speaking in a PTY programme, he said it was observed in the past that unsettled issue had caused delay in the completion of mega projects with ultimate loss to the national exchequer.
He said Bhasha-Diamir dam was a promising project, as it would contribute in the country's economic progress. It would add 4,500 MW electricity in the national network and substantially strengthen the water distribution system particularly in Sindh and Punjab.
It could also benefit the irrigation systems of the NWFP and Balochistan by constructing uplift canals, he added. He suggested that settlement of the affectees should be started simultaneously along with the project.
