In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference has said, the illegally detained Kashmiris are not released and instead innocent people, mostly youth are indiscriminately arrested.
Reporting this, Kashmir Media Service says, the APHC spokesman, in a statement in Srinagar said, Indian government's announcements regarding release of detainees languishing in jails for years are misleading. Instead of releasing the detainees, innocent persons are being arrested under draconian laws.
The spokesman pointed out that the Indian government assured the recently held Kashmiris' conference in New Delhi that it would review the cases of detainees and release those against whom there were no charges.
Dismissing these reports, he said, even if any detainee is set free after a prolonged detention he is being rearrested and implicated in baseless cases. One could infer from such actions that Indian government's announcements in this regard are nothing but to mislead the international community.
The spokesman said condition of the detainees was an eye opener for the international human rights bodies as they are being denied the basic amenities including medical aid.
They are not being taken to the courts for hearings and the jail authorities even do not honour the court orders. The kins of the detainees have to wait for months for meeting them and even have to return without a meeting from far off places outside occupied Kashmir, he added.
