The Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA), Sindh zone, has lauded the decision of the federal government to introduce remote sensing system (RSS) via satellite to estimate the size of major Pakistani crops.
A PSMA spokesman said on Tuesday that the reliance on this world-recognised and in-use technology will be helpful in determination of nearly precise size of each crop's availability.
The system of crop estimation is obsolete and has become unreliable over the years due to human involvement in data collection and prone to errors and omission, he added. The frequent changes in key crops estimation, stretching from the area under sowing of a crop to its coming to the market till close of flows are the ample evidences in this regard.
