The provincial government has approved funds of Rs 10 million for construction of streets, roads and provision of water supply to Ahmedabad locality of Rawalpindi Cantonment area.
Muhammad Basharat Raja, Provincial Minister for Law, Justice and Local Government, revealed this while addressing launching ceremony of first phase of the construction programme here on Tuesday.
He said that the Punjab government is giving special attention to development of Rawalpindi district and Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi had allocated huge funds.
He emphasised the need of unity in the ranks of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (PML) and instructed the party workers to get prepared for the 2007 general elections. "The Nazims and Naib Nazims should make utmost efforts to focus on development work and to enhance the PML membership", he added.
Basharat promised to address all the requirements of the area. Government is serving masses without any discrimination and billions of rupees are being spent on development packages, he said.
He said soon development work would be started in Potohar Town to raise the standard of the people. He said that water filtration plants would be installed in every union council in Potohar Town for provision of clean and safe drinking water. "All the problems of the people would be addressed and justice would be given to them at their door step", Basharat added.
Earlier, he visited the areas on the demands of the people and gave approval of the construction of bridge to connect Ahmedabad with Dhoke Syyedan. Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab Nasir Raja and representatives of local government were also present.
