US MIDDAY: coffee rallies

31 Mar, 2006

Coffee futures prices rallied more than 4 percent to a two-week high on Thursday, fuelled by robust fund and speculative buying amid surging prices in other commodity markets, traders said.
The New York Board of Trade's May active arabica contract rose 4.25 cents to end at $1.0860 a lb, after trading from $1.0450 to $1.0960 - the loftiest since March 15.
The benchmark contract had been knocked down by speculative and fund liquidation this month. On March 22, it bottomed at $1.0350, down 19.4 percent from a peak this year of $1.2850.
