Federal Labour and Manpower Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan on Friday said that President Pervez Musharraf has shelved the Kalabagh Dam plan after Cabinet advised him to do so.
He told a function here at a local hotel that the Cabinet was independent and was instrumental in putting off the plan to construct the reservoir on which some provinces had serious reservations.
"The Cabinet not only managed to convince President Musharraf to delay the matter till 2016 after a consensus is evolved, but also strongly recommended building Bhasha Dam," the minister said.
He defended President Musharraf's decision to continue wearing uniform after December 2004 in view of the internal and external situation.
The minister said that the national and international state of affairs warranted further strengthening of President Musharraf.
