Capsized boat was not licensed to sail: Bahrain

03 Apr, 2006

A cruise boat that capsized off the coast of Bahrain killing at least 58 foreigners was sailing without a proper licence, the country's Interior Ministry said.
The twin-decked boat was carrying about 126 people. Tourism sources said the Bahraini vessel which went down late on Thursday had a capacity of 100.
Rescuers recovered the body of one more passenger and were searching for a Filipino woman they believe to be the last person missing from the ship, the statement said.
Weeping relatives and friends began claiming the bodies of loved ones on Sunday.
"We're here because we lost five of our friends," said Indian Ramanna Rai, one of several people who flocked to a local hospital to identify and repatriate the bodies of the victims.
