A spokesman of Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) has strongly criticised Sherry Rehman MNA for alleging political figures with names of mills without any relevance.
In a statement here on Monday, a PSMA spokesman said that the MNA in her statement had given wrong figures about sugar mills. She has issued such a statement to satisfy certain quarters and done this on their whims and wishes.
He further pointed out that being a legislator, she should well understand that NAB's jurisdiction does not fall in private enterprises and industry. Rather its main objective is to probe into corrupt practices involving public funds, public offices and government sector including legislators and public representatives using public funds.
The spokesman further said if she needs any help for getting proper figures and information she should contact PSMA and before making any statement she should study the ground facts. The country's investment in the past was held back because of such irresponsible public representatives without realising that such follies spoil the investment climate of the country.
He said that PSMA reserves the right for legal remedies, if required. He said sugar industry is playing a very vital role in the economy of the country, especially during the current crushing season extra Rs 40 billion have been injected in the rural economy of the country and the farmers overwhelmed by getting high price of their sugar crop.
