Please refer to the letter of N.A. Khan, published on March 27 in your newspaper regarding the auto industry, which is quite correct. Nowadays, Indus Motors and Honda are booking cars after taking 100 percent advance and the delivery of the car is made after 6 to 7 months or more. This is very bad.
The local companies are making huge profits as you can see on the balance sheet with the support of the Ministry of Commerce and no facility is provided to the general public. Now the premium has reached Rs 1 to 2 lakh per car.
The Ministry of Commerce has formed a task force. It took 2 years to collect the information.
The government should allow the import of cars up to 1600cc with a lower rate of duty, at 10%, to facilitate the general public.
