Pakistan Railways (PR) has signed an agreement with Mega Tech (pvt.) Ltd, under which the later would establish a state-of-the-art 'container terminal' at Lahore Dry Port, Mughalpura through joint venture with private sector.
An agreement in this regard was signed by the Pakistan Railways (PR) and Mega Tech, at Railways Headquarters, here on Tuesday.
The agreement has been reached in line with the policies of the government of Pakistan, to start joint venture in public-private partnership, to develop modern and efficient facilities for the benefit of importers/exporters.
The Federal Minister for Railways, Mian Shamim Haider, Federal Secretary/Chairman Railways Shakeel Durrani, were also present on the occasion.
Chief Traffic Manager, Dry Port, Mehmood Rashid inked the document on behalf of railways while General Manager, Mega Tech, Sohail Umer represented its company. According to the railways spokesman, this new container terminal would handle 12,000 containers annually and would generate revenue of Rs 38 million per annum.
It is expected that more such joint ventures in public-private partnership would be executed shortly such as setting of 'New Inland Container Terminal' around Lahore in line with the National Trade Corridor Task Force targets.
