Sindh government denies Mengal's charges

07 Apr, 2006

The Sindh home department has issued the following press note here on Thursday. The government of Sindh has vehemently denied allegations levelled by Akhtar Mengal as published in certain newspapers against the government and officials of law-enforcement agencies.
Akhtar Mengal has tried to portray through his statement that two government officials were trying to kidnap his children; therefore, he reacted.
This statement of Akhtar Mengai is a figment of his imagination, devoid of any substance of truth and being contrary to the factual position.
In fact Akhtar Mengal and his armed guards had kidnapped the two persons of law-enforcement agency from their place of duty at gunpoint and kept them in illegal confinement at his residence, manhandled them with fists and huts of Kalashinkov. Both the officials were later on recovered by the local police from the residence of Akhtar Mengal. It appears that Akhtar Mengal in order to avoid any legal action resorted to unfounded allegations with a view to cover up his legal and unlawful activities.
The story relating to the alleged attempt of kidnapping of his children is absolutely baseless and incorrect. In this regard a FIR No 170/2006 has been registered against Akhtar Mengal and others at Darakshan Police Station and is being investigated by senior police officials.
