Multan airport to be upgraded

11 Apr, 2006

Multan airport will be upgraded and expanded to meet an outstanding demand of the exporters and traders so that wide bodied aircraft could be landed there.
Earlier, President General Pervez Musharraf had ordered to upgrade this airport at the earliest. The project was expected to start during the year 2005-06 and an amount of Rs 1,650 million was allocated for this airport but this amount was not released because Civil Aviation Authority had changed its priorities.
Now work on the expansion of Multan Airport is expected to start from July 2006, to be completed in one-and-a-half year with revised estimated cost of Rs 2,250 million. An officer of CAA told this correspondent that this airport would not be closed even for a single day and flights would continue as usual to facilitate the passengers. There is no truth in these rumours that this airport would remain closed for indefinite period. A modern hotel, cargo village, food courts, free shopping plaza would also be constructed to attract the visitors, exporters, and traders.
