Russia appoints new ambassador to UN

Russia named career diplomat Vitaly Churkin as its new ambassador to the United Nations and representative on the UN Security Council in a Kremlin announcement on Monday.
Churkin has served as a foreign ministry spokesman and as a diplomatic envoy in various posts, including to the former Yugoslavia and Nato. He takes over the UN post from Andrei Denisov, whomis appointed deputy foreign minister.
