The Australian Wool Exchange (AWEX) said on Tuesday its eastern market indicator (EMI) fell two cents to 726c a kg clean at sales in Sydney and Melbourne.
AWEX said its northern indicator at sales in Sydney was steady at 737c/kg, with the southern indicator at sales in Melbourne down three cents to 717c/kg.
In Sydney, merino fleece of 19 microns and finer were five cents dearer, although 2% Vegetable Matter types were discounted by about 10 cents. Skirtings of 19-20 microns finished the day 10 to 15 cents cheaper, with 32m crossbreds 5 to 10 cents lower.
In Melbourne, merino fleece dropped around 5 to 6 cents across most types, with low Vegetable matter skirtings up to 10 to 20 cents cheaper. Crossbreds of 28 microns dropped 18 cents and high Vegetable Matter oddments were up to 20 cents cheaper. Locks of high Vegetable Matter were up to 5 cents firmer. Of the 21,169 bales offered, 19 percent were passed in.
Sales continue today with about 27,166 bales on offer.
