THE RUPEE: modest gains recorded on currency market

14 Apr, 2006

Bullish sentiment was seen in the interbank market on Thursday as the rupee gained versus the dollar moderately, picking up four paisa for buying at 59.96 and rose by five paisa for selling at 59.96 and 59.98, dealers said.
Easy supply of dollar helped the rupee to recover its losses and it seems the local currency may move both ways in the coming days, they added. The dollar was higher against the major currencies in the world markets, dealers said.
The rupee also gained five paisa versus the euro for buying and selling at 72.30 and Rs 72.40 as the US dollar showed its strength in terms of the other currency units, they said.
