A joint team of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), NSS (PTCL) and FIA raided a house in Islamabad and seized an illegal gateway exchange being operated from there.
According to details, the team raided a house in sector I-9/4. The set-up was using DSL for international connectivity while GSM SIMS of a mobile operator was being used for local termination.
The illegal exchange comprised 3 gateway switches and 10 cellular phones. It was being run by a person named Zahid Shah who was arrested on the spot along with accomplice Irfan.
It may be recalled that the activity of bypassing legal gateway routes causes huge losses not only to the government exchequer but also to licensed telecom operators. PTA has stepped up efforts in this regard and is bent on eliminating the menace of grey-market telephony.
