Sindh Assembly to take up Nishtar Park tragedy today

14 Apr, 2006

The Sindh Assembly session on Thursday was adjourned to meet again on Friday as mark of respect to the demise of sitting MPA Anwer Adil Hingoro (PML-F) and former MPA and MNA Hafiz Muhammad Taqi (JUP), who died in the Nishtar Park bomb blast on Tuesday. Speaker Syed Muzaffar Hussain was in the chair.
It is traditional to adjourn assembly session on the deaths of sitting and former MPAs.
Earlier when the session began, the treasury and the opposition offered Fateha for the victims of the Nishtar Park incident in which scores of Ulema and others, who were offering Maghreb prayers after Eid Milad-un-Nabi (peace upon him) celebrations had lost their lives.
The House unanimously decided to discuss Nishtar Park incident on Friday and, if not concluded by the close of working hours, to continue on Monday.
The Speaker said that the discussion was imminent as the incident had shattered the entire country and Muslim Ummah.
However, the opposition wanted to keep all proceedings suspended on Friday as the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) and other religious organisations had given strike call on Friday, but the treasury opposed the idea of suspending business on Friday. The treasury was of the opinion that despite strike call, the session would take place on Friday and those who did not take part in the discussion on Friday would be able to do so on Monday.
The House, before adjournment, condemned the Nishtar Park incident and condoled with the families of those who had lost their lives.
