Monsanto defends cotton pricing in India

15 Apr, 2006

Monsanto Co on Wednesday defended its pricing practices for biotech cotton in India and said the company was co-operating fully with a government inquiry into complaints involving sales of its genetically modified (GMO) cotton seeds there.
Monsanto's comments came after an investigative arm of India's Monopolies & Restrictive Trade Practices Commission (MRTP) released a report on Monday that holds Monsanto's joint venture in India responsible for engaging in restrictive trade practices.
The inquiry is continuing and Monsanto spokeswoman Lori Fisher said on Wednesday the company was co-operating fully, though it believed there were "jurisdictional issues" to be resolved.
