Seminar on implications of WTO regime from April 18

16 Apr, 2006

Pakistan Manpower Institute will organise a two-day seminar on "Implications of WTO Regime on Labour Market" from April 18-19. The objective of the seminar is to provide an insight to the participants on the implications of WTO-led trade liberalisation on economic growth, flow of capital and technology, labour migration and employment.
The fact of the matter is that WTO regime is bringing a mix of challenges as well as new opportunities. Competitiveness, quality improvement, rapid formation of human capital, investment in infrastructure and technologies, new productivity patterns, elimination of subsidies and improvement of business environment are some of the major challenges.
The role of public and private sectors will also be highlighted during the seminar. At the same time elimination of trade barriers, removal of quotas, availability of trained labour force and production of cheap and quality raw material can improve prospects of exploiting the existing opportunities. Pakistan needs to be ready for these opportunities and challenges. About 25 officers from federal and provincial government organisations, academic institutions and private sector will participate.
The seminar will be inaugurated by Mohammad Ramzan Bhatti Director General, Inspections and Internal Audit (Customs, Sales Tax and Federal Excise).
