Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Saturday called upon the broadcasters to adhere to certain norms while showing horrific scenes in their news coverage.
Chairing a meeting of the Pakistan Broadcasters Association, he said the electronic media plays a vital role in moulding people's opinion and they should keep in mind the human sensitivities.
Sheikh Rashid said they should be balanced in their news coverage and analysis.
He said the credit goes to the present government for liberalising the electronic media in the country, which was free to air views of varied nature.
The meeting decided to form a 10-member committee comprising representatives from the electronic media and information ministry officials.
The committee will meet once every month and chalk out a code of conduct for the broadcasters.
It will comprise Tahir A. Khan, Arshad Zuberi, Duraid Siddiqui, Mir Shakilur Rehman and Haji Iqbal (broadcasters' representatives), Secretary Information Shahid Rafi, Principal Information Officer Ashfaq Gondal, Managing Director PTV Arshad Khan, DG Pemra and a representative of ISPR.
The next meeting of the committee will be held after one week in Karachi.
