President General Pervez Musharraf has said the government is undertaking full-fledged efforts for rooting out extremism from the society. He was talking to a delegation of Ahle Sunnat Wal-Jamaat at the Chief Minister House here on Sunday evening.
Musharraf asked the Ulema to extend full cooperation to the government towards the maintenance law and order.
He vehemently condemned the tragic incident at Nishtar Park on last Tuesday.
The President said those behind this dastardly action do not even deserve to be called Muslims. He assured that every possible effort is being made to apprehend the culprits and bring them to justice.
Musharraf said all the federal government agencies have been geared up for the purpose. He said those behind this act of suicide bombing would be unearthed and awarded exemplary punishment.
He said stern action would be taken against the publication of material spreading hatred against followers of various schools of thought, adding there should be no militant group of the religious organisations.
The President said Muslim Ummah is passing through a critical phase and it needs unity and amity. He also pointed out that the Ummah is also looking towards Pakistan which can take it forward.
The President asked the Ulema to foster the spirit of unity, brotherhood and tolerance.
Musharraf declared that his first concern is Pakistan where we have to live. If Pakistan makes progress and attains prosperity then our coming generations would also benefit from this. He said extremism would take the country towards disastrous path and that this would have to be shunned to enable Pakistan to make headway.
The President prayed to Almighty Allah to rest in eternal peace those who lost their lives in the Nishtar Park tragedy and grant courage and fortitude to the bereaved families to bear this irreparable loss.
He also prayed for the early recovery of those who sustained injuries in the incident.
On the occasion, the members of the delegation apprised the President of their viewpoints. They also aired their grievances and came up with suggestions.
The delegation comprised Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman, Allama Shah Turab-ul-Haq Qadri, Maulana Jameel Ahmed Naimi, Sahibzada Dr Abul Khair Muhammad Zubair, Maulana Kaukab Noorani Okarvi, Haji Hanif Tayyab, Yaqub Attari, Abdul Qadir Attari, Abdul Qadir Baboo, Shahid Ghauri, among others.
