Tourism industry generates $135.3 million

18 Apr, 2006

Attracting up to 798,000 foreign tourists in the current season, the country's tourism has generated $135.3 million. Tourism activity in Pakistan is on the rise over the last few years with government making fool-proof arrangements to maintain this momentum, it was officially learnt on Monday.
Foreign tourist arrival in 2004-5 stood at 648,000 while the revenue being generated was US $185.6 million. The government is contemplating to increase its income from tourism to US $200 million by the end of current financial year and thereafter raise it further through proper marketing.
Given Pakistan's rich cultural heritage and natural assets in the shape of high mountains, tall peaks, land mass under glaciers, high altitude large fresh water lakes, spectacular green valleys, astonishing variety of land-scapes, soft sandy warm water beaches and above all, hospitable people, it should not be difficult to achieve the target.
