The Government of Pakistan should facilitate and encourage the local investors for active participation in the privatisation process particularly in the electrical utilities.
A recommendation to this effect was adopted at the concluding session of the 21st Multi-Topic International Symposium of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Pakistan (IEEEP), which was held at a local hotel.
The two-day moot was organised under the auspices of the IEEEP Karachi Chapter.
A former chief of the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC), Engr Tanzeem Hussain Naqvi, was the chief guest at the inaugural session of the symposium.
Speaking on the occasion, he emphasised the role of engineers towards the progress and development of the country.
Naqvi, who had also remained Member Power of Wapda was of the view that the efficient running of the public utilities can significantly improve their efficiency as well as the profitability.
He maintained that our engineers have an important role to play in this respect. He said that the engineers should fully contribute their bit towards spurring the development process and bringing about economic improvements in the country.
The other recommendations adopted at the concluding session of the moot stressed that the utilities such as Wapda and KESC should take initiative in utilising networking tools for future planning, loss reduction and network improvement.
It was further stated that local engineering organisations and utilities are recommended on the basis of best practice sharing to find out how the other organisations in the region are solving their technical problems.
Another recommendation said that the National Energy Plan should be published for the benefit of the general public and technical support be sought from the Pakistan Engineering Council and registered professional bodies like IEEEP for its implementation.
It was also stressed that the engineering associations especially IEEEP should encourage female engineers to present technical paper in the symposia and take active part in the Association activities.
Earlier, IEEEP Karachi Center Chairman, Engr SK Pervez, in his welcome address highlighted the role of IEEEP in dissemination of knowledge, and in particular the continuing success of its student seminars.
The anchor person of the Panel Discussion was Engr SS A Jafri. The panellists were Engr Tanzeem Naqvi, Engr Saber Ghaznavi, Engr Waqar Butt and Danish Tapal.
In the two-day symposium, 15 technical papers were presented by eminent engineers on topics related to energy and power, industrial and general issues, electronics, telecommunication and information technology,
Three best papers from the student seminar held in January this year were also presented in a special students session.
