Raw sugar futures closed lower Wednesday on late sales by speculators and switch trade as commodity funds which spurred a rally Tuesday were largely absent from the pit for now, brokers said.
The New York Board of Trade's May raw sugar contract slipped 0.09 cent to end at 17.43 cents per lb, dealing between 17.30 and 17.65 cents.
July slumped 0.14 cent to settle at 17.80 cents. Two contracts aside, the rest lost 0.04 to 0.09 cent.
The switch trade saw open interest in the May contract drop 9,842 lots to 57,736 lots as of April 18.
