Cognos Inc is launching a new search tool, in partnership with IBM and Google, to offer services that Canada's biggest software maker hopes will increase demand.
The new search tool, called Cognos Go, will make it faster and easier for a wider range of users within a company to find information, and help erode resistance to business intelligence technology, Don Campbell, Cognos's vice-president, platform strategy and technology, said on April 19.
"It encourages broad user adoption, and this is a key element," Campbell said in an interview.
"To date, BI has provided a great deal of value to those that use it. But its adoption is less than 100 percent in organisations and this will allow that adoption to grow significantly as any user inside an organisation can use a search engine."
Companies use so-called business intelligence software to speed decision-making by gleaning trends from data. Cognos Go for IBM will, among other features, enable users to easily find and share reports and other BI information.
Cognos Go for Google OneBox will show users graphs, charts, tables or maps for a quick understanding of the business. It will also give instant answers to common questions, among other features.
