Malaysian share prices closed 0.51 percent lower on Monday as sentiment was hit by concerns over the prospect of higher interest rates and rising crude oil prices, dealers said.
The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index lost 4.83 points to 943.36 on volume of 989.26 million shares worth 1.07 billion ringgit (0.3 billion dollars).
Losers outnumbered gainers 539 to 263, with 298 stocks unchanged and 215 untraded.
Among the blue chips, Telekom Malaysia closed down 0.05 ringgit at 9.75, Tenaga Nasional was flat at 8.60 ringgit, while Maybank shed 0.10 to 11.10.
Genting was down 0.95 or 3.69 percent at 24.80 on profit-taking after rising sharply on hopes the company will win a Singapore casino license bid.
