People concerned over poor performance of Bait-ul-Maal

01 May, 2006

The Almadad Welfare Organisation has demanded the Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal to process over 400 applications submitted about two years ago by the poor and deserving people through the organisation.
In a statement here on Sunday, President Almadad Welfare Organisation, working for provision of daily use items to the poor people, Ms Tahira Gul said she has submitted over 400 applications of poor people for financial assistance in Bait-ul-Maal during last year, but these applications were not being processed and still lying pending.
She regretted that no deserving person can get financial assistance from the Bait-ul-Maal if he has no influence. She said during the last two years, she has submitted hundreds of applications of poor and deserving people with the Bait-ul-Maal, but even a single applicant has not been granted financial assistance yet.
She said over 100 applications forwarded to Bait-ul-Maal by the Prime Minister secretariat some eight months ago, were not being processed too.
She said whenever she contacts the Bait-ul-Maal officials, they say the applications will be processed next month, but unfortunately that next month could not be materialised since last two years, she lamented.
The applicants, whose applications are pending for the last two years include-widows, orphans, poor and deserving people, most of them residing in Katchi Abadis, Ms Gul said.
She demanded the authorities concerned to streamline the functioning of Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal, so that deserving people could get due assistance.
