KESC told to complete link with Hubco

Federal Minister for Water and Power Liaquat Ali Jatoi has directed the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) to improve the rehabilitation and distribution system for uninterrupted power supply to the consumers in the summer season.
He said this while presiding over a meeting with KESC Managing Director and senior officials of Wapda and the Ministry to review the current power situation in Karachi here on Tuesday.
Jatoi directed KESC to prepare immediate plan for implementing generation projects on fast track basis. He also asked KESC to complete the Hubco-KESC transmission link for smooth and reliable supply of electricity for consumers.
He directed Wapda to provide over and above 600 MW power to KESC if surplus power was available in the system and provide full assistance an emergency situation to KESC.
He said Karachi was an important city and the hub of economic activities in the country, adding the electricity problem in Karachi was a matter of common interest and the government would provide all assistance to KESC to overcome the energy crisis there.
KESC MD Frank Schremidt briefed the meeting regarding major reasons of loadshedding in Karachi and informed that the commissioning of Hubco-KESC Line was delayed as KESC could not give shut down earlier.
The redistribution of load by KESC after shut down of Baldia Grid Station, resulted overburdened of its system which resulted in some 220 Kv line tripping.
KESC has its own generation capacity of 1750 MW but is providing 1102 KW presently. KESC's own 200 MW as one of its unit at Bin Qasim developed technical fault reduced generating capacity, it is still under maintenance, he added.
