The Planning Commission has approved a Higher Education Commission (HEC) project worth Rs 960 million to strengthen the teaching facilities at Balochistan University.
The CDWP has recently approved the project aimed at strengthening human resource development by launching several scholarship schemes at MS, M Phil and Ph D programmes for students and faculty members of Balochistan University.
The project also envisages a four-year BS programmes and establishment of a Centre of Excellence in emerging technologies in the University.
Under the project, existing departments will be strengthened through introduction of new subjects, and four-year BS programmes will enhance student enrolment in the next five years. New subjects and departments will include renewable energy, seismology/earthquake studies, department of medical technology, banking finance studies & business administration and public administration including department of women studies, department of linguistics, population studies and department of economics.
In addition, the HEC will fund 31 faculty members to study in technologically advanced countries for Ph D in women studies, sociology, economics, library science, management sciences, mass communication, psychology, education, international relations, philosophy, botany, chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacy, statistics and geology.
