City Nazim Mustafa Kamal has announced that an 'automobile zone' will be built on 100 acres land to boost the automobile industry in the city.
He said that all basic facilities would be provided in the zone to attract foreign and local investors.He said this while paying a visit at Indus Motors Company here on Tuesday. He said that to meet the city's needs more automobile industries would be developed in the city, as per Master Plan.
Referring to the irregular and outdated public transportation system, he said that vehicles discarded in other parts of the country were being run in Karachi. He said that CDGK was planning to introduce about 8000 new CNG buses to replace the dilapidated and old buses in the city to facilitate the general public.
He said that CDGK was also planning to privatise the section issuing fitness certificates to vehicles. In this connection, he said, CDGK would require assistance from Pakistan Automobile Association.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that, following Sindh High Court directions, the Nazim has called a meeting of Traffic Management Board on May 4, 2006 to evolve a plan to crack down on vehicles emitting smoke and plying without official number plates.
