DP World team briefed about port and shipping projects

Dubai Ports World (DP World) and Nakheel Group of Companies Chairman Sultan Bin Sulayem on Wednesday held a detailed meeting with the Minister for Ports and Shipping Senator Babar Khan Ghauri and KPT authorities here at the Minister's office.
They discussed wide range of matters relating to ports and shipping. The meeting was also attended by the Minister of State for Privatisation and Investment Umar Ahmad Ghuman, Karachi Port Trust Chairman Vice Admiral Ahmad Hayat (Retd) and other senior officers of the KPT.
DP World team was given a detailed presentation on the KPT's operations and its structural facilities besides its on-going and future development projects involving huge local and foreign investment.
The projects included Pakistan Deep-water Container Port and Cargo Village, Quay Wail re-construction of berths and boat basin jetties, construction of LPG terminal on BOT basis.
They were also told about KPT's real estate projects which included Port Tower Complex, Commercial Complex, Residential Estate, recreational facilities and many shopping complexes in the port area on the very prime land of the city.
The recreational facilities which were apprised to the visiting delegation included Port City, Western Back Waters, Manora Resort Island, Port Hotel spreading over an area of five acres and Port Park spreading over more than 15 acres had been undertaken by the KPT.
The delegation had a view of the world's second tallest water jet fountain recently built by the KPT, which had added to grandeur of this leading port.
The DP World Chairman said he had come to Pakistan to see investment prospects in ports sector and hoped his visit would help promoting mutual economic co-operation between Pakistan and the UAE. He would fly to Islamabad to call on President General Pervez Musharraf on Thursday.
Earlier, the delegation had an aerial view of the Karachi Port.
