'Ecota to be implemented soon'

06 May, 2006

It is expected that Economic Co-operation Organisation Trade Agreement (Ecota) would be soon implemented which will allow free trade between ECO countries, former envoy Javed Hussain said on Friday. Talking to PTV, he said that basic purpose of ECO is to increase regional economic co-operation as these countries had economic commonalties.
Transport Transit Framework Agreement (TTFA) will come into force by the end of this month, he said, adding that it would help free movement of transport. He said that ECO had a lot of potential, but it should be made more effective, particularly in the areas of energy. Pakistan was playing an effective role in strengthening the organisation and makes it more active, he added. He said Pakistan provided the closest link to many of the member states to the sea having the easiest route for increased trade.
