Visitors' entry banned in CBR

The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has imposed ban on the entry of visitors, including journalists, due to budget preparation exercise. The Board has also appointed Salman Nabi, Member, Direct Taxes, as Chief Co-ordinator for the Budget.
According to a circular issued by the Chief Security Officer on Saturday, the entry of visitors in the Board's premises has been restricted with immediate effect due to heavy engagements of the Chairman, Members and other senior officers of the Board in connection with the upcoming budget.
Visitors of the Chairman and Members will, however, be allowed, subject to approval of the concerned officers. No other officer will be allowed to meet the visitors, the circular added.
Meanwhile, Istataat Ali, Chief DTO has been appointed as Co-ordinator Direct Taxes for budget; Aftab Ahmad, secretary assessment, as deputy co-ordinator, direct taxes; Zulfiqar Ali Shah Kazmi, chief, customs, deputy co-ordinator, customs; and Dr Iftikhar Ahmad, secretary (ST-Tariff) has been appointed as deputy co-ordinator, sales tax and federal excise for budget 2006-2007.
