PBC refuses to attend dinner

10 May, 2006

Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) will not attend the dinner to be hosted by the President of Pakistan on June 19, as the bar has never accepted General Musharraf as constitutionally elected head of the state.
The meeting of bar held with its vice-chairman Ali Ahmad Kurd resolved that General Musharraf had no right to stay in power. It also requested that all the bar councils and bar associations to boycott the dinner. The bar also resolved that the move of the government regarding restructuring of High Courts and establishing special constitutional, commercial, criminal and civil divisions was aimed at further weakening the judiciary.
