11 May, 2006

Lawyers of southern Punjab observed strike on Wednesday condemn the killing of Amir Cheema on the call given by Punjab Bar Council (PBC). They boycotted the court proceedings after 10:30 am and confined themselves to the Bar room where President District Bar Association Athar Bukhari paid rich tribute to Amir Cheema and called him 'Ghazi Ilam Din of 21st Century'.
They vehemently condemned the delaying tactics by German Government in sending his body to Pakistan. District Bar and High Court Bar condemned the killing of Amir Cheema, who was taken into custody by German police on charges of making life attempt on an editor, who published blasphemous caricatures of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).
The meeting held that extra-judicial murder of Amir Cheema by the German police was highly condemnable and was a clear violation of human rights. The meeting offered dua for the departed soul of Amir Cheema and demanded of the government to take up the issue of Amir's killing with the German government.
