Punjab denies utilisation of Sindh's water share

11 May, 2006

Consultant on Punjab irrigation has categorically denied the statement of a spokesman of the Sindh government that Punjab was utilising water out of the Sindh share. Mahmood-ul-Hussein told Business Recorder here on Tuesday.
The representatives of Sindh government had also levelled such allegations in the past but there was no reality in it, rather it was the embodiment of falsehood.
He said that Indus River System Authority (Irsa) camouflaged the facts regarding water situation and kept the nation in the dark. Although, the Irsa had announced that water would be distributed among the provinces according to their demand from May 8, the Irrigation Department had not received any intimation in this regard. He said the Punjab government had informed the Irsa that there would be shortage of water in the Kharif season but no attention was paid to address the situation.
