A US jury on Thursday found a priest guilty of the Satanic-rite-style murder of a 71-year-old nun which went unsolved for more than 25 years.
Father Gerald Robinson, wearing his Roman collar, was immediately sentenced to a jail term of between 15 years and life, and was led away in handcuffs.
There were gasps in the court after the verdict in Toledo, Ohio, but Robinson, 68, remained passive.
Sister Margaret Ann Pahl was found murdered on a chapel floor in April 1980. She had been strangled and stabbed in the shape of an upside down cross.
Robinson was an early suspect but has continually denied involvement. He pleaded not guilty to the murder charge.
The jury of 12, in Lucas County Common Pleas Court, deliberated for six hours before reaching a verdict.
Occult expert Father Jeffrey Grob of the Archdiocese of Chicago told the trial on Monday that the murder scene had all the markings of a Satanic rite.
