Growers urged to use certified seeds

Punjab Agriculture Minister Arshad Khan Lodhi has urged the cotton and rice growers to use certified seed for enhancing production of crops. Substandard seed not only reduces production but also have negative impact on overall development of agriculture sector.
The minister was talking to a delegation of growers from Sahiwal district here on Sunday.
He said the government was working on a mission to restore traditional role of Punjab for producing huge quantity of grain to feed large number of people.
The government is providing best technical assistance and other facilities to the growers for enabling them to maximise production of their crops, he said. Responding to questions from the growers regarding shortage of water for irrigation of the crops, the minister said the government was fully aware of the situation and working on a series of projects to increase availability of water.
This includes programme of brick lining of watercourses and construction of water reservoirs including Bhasha dam, he said.
