Water and sewerage improvement: Rs 1 billion approved for Korangi industrial area

The Federal Government, on a proposal by Karachi Nazim Mustafa Kamal, has approved Rs 1 billion for improvement of water and sewerage, and industrial waste and sewerage disposal system in Korangi Industrial Area.
The approval was given in a meeting in Islamabad on Saturday held under the chairmanship of Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Akram Shaikh.
Besides Federal government officials and Mustafa Kamal, the meeting was attended by MD, KWSB, Iftekhar Haider.
Mustafa, briefing the meeting about details, said that Korangi is Pakistan's biggest industrial area where besides millions of people in jobs daily revenue of Rs 250 million goes to the government.
In this area, he said, water and sewerage system had suffered badly due to flash flood 30 years back to which no one paid attention. The Nazim emphasised that it was in the interest of the country and the people that facilities provided in this biggest industrial area were in conformity with the international standard.
He said that the City Government was already spending Rs 2 billion on improvement of water and sewerage systems in Karachi's industrial areas and it would be beneficial for the country if the proposed project of improvement of water and sewerage system in Korangi area was approved. After detailed consideration the Planning Commission approved the project.
