City Council to send draft budget to CDGK for approval

City District Council on Wednesday adopted a resolution unanimously to send the draft budget for fiscal year 2006-07 to City District Government Karachi (CDGK) for approval.
City Naib Nazim Karachi Nasreen Jalil presided over the meeting and adopted a resolution by majority of votes, while only four votes were cast against the resolution.
Earlier, members of City District Council lambasted EDO Works and Services Department, Sarfraz Ali Shah for misbehaving with Chairperson Finance and Planning Committee, Itrat Akhtar and other committee members.
Members of finance and planning committee were of the view that in order to evolve a report for finalising the draft budget 2006-07, for which they sought information from EDO Works and Services Department regarding continued and future uplift projects in the metropolis, which the EDO not only refused to provide but also misbehaved with Itrat Akhtar and other members.
In this regard, City District Council also adopted a resolution in which the immediate suspension of EDO Works and Services from his job was demanded.
Members from opposition and ruling benches condemned EDO works and services department for his bad attitude and requested City Naib Nazim Karachi Nasreen Jalil to deal with Sarfraz Ali Shah with iron hand so as to ensure the respect of city district council's members.
After adopting a resolution on draft budget, on the demand by opposition leader Saeed Gani of Awam Dost panel in the council, Nasreen Jalil also constituted a three-member committee to probe into the allegations made against Saeed Gani by the Jamshed Town Nazim for agitating the miscreants against the town administration and Karachi water and sewerage board (KWSB), besides tampering the valves operations in the town.
Naib Nazim adjourned the City District Council meeting till May 29, 2006, while finance and planning committee will not receive any further proposals and reservations on draft budget.
