Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Thursday conferred the award of Hilal-e-Quaid-e-Azam on Saif Al Eslam M Al Gaddafi, son of Libyan leader, Colonel Muamar Al-Gaddafi and President of Gaddafi Development Foundation, in recognition of his services for the victims of October 8 earthquake.
The Prime Minister who is on a two-day visit to Libya presented Pakistan's prestigious award, on behalf of President General Pervez Musharraf, for his commendable services in providing timely assistance to the people affected by the horrific earthquake of October 8, that claimed over 73,000 lives in Pakistan's northern areas here at an investiture ceremony.
Saif Al Eslam Al-Gaddafi was among the first few foreign dignitaries who rushed to Pakistan after the devastating earthquake struck parts of AJK and NWFP, bringing with him the much needed relief supplies.
Libya also assured Pakistan of its support in the rehabilitation and reconstruction phases. Saif Al Eslam also laid the foundation stone of a model village financed by Libya for the quake affected people of Balakot having 100 quakeproof housing units.
Saif Al Eslam Al-Gaddafi thanked Pakistan for the award and said he will continue to work for extending assistance to his Pakistani brethren in their hour of need.
Libya's Prime Minister Dr Al Baghdadi Al Mahmudi and members of his cabinet attended the ceremony at the State Guest House.
Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Minister for Ports and Shipping Babar Khan Ghouri, Minister for Science and Technology Nouraiz Shakoor, Minister for Privatisation Zahid Hamid, Minister of State for Economic Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar, Foreign Affairs Khusro Bakhtiar and Industries Hamid Yar Hiraj and other members of delegation attended the event.
