Punjab Chief Secretary Salman Siddique has directed all the District Co-ordination Officers (DCOs) to ensure 100 percent achievement of the target of watercourses improvement project by 20th of June this year.
He was presiding over a meeting of all District Co-ordination Officers here on Thursday, which reviewed the progress of the Punjab component of National Watercourses Improvement Project.
It was told in the meeting that a target of improvement of 5,000 watercourse had been fixed for the current financial year and the government had provided over Rs 3,173 million to all districts for the purpose. The meeting was told that 532 watercourses had been completed, 1,573 were near completion while civil work on remaining was also in progress.
The Chief Secretary taking serious notice of the slow pace of progress on the project in the districts of Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Mianwali, Kasur, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sahiwal, Bhakkar and Jhang directed the concerned DCOs to achieve the target on priority basis as it was a priority programme of the President. He directed them to recruit additional staff, if required, and even utilise the officials of other departments having technical skill for completion of the project well in time.
