Students in politics

20 May, 2006

Students are the future of any nation. Their upbringing is like the upbringing of the whole nation. If they are disciplined and organised, they are a symbol of a disciplined and organized nation.
Students are introduced to many activities during their study period in college and universities. Some of these activities relate to politics.
For this purpose, student unions are introduced in which the students participate enthusiastically. It is a step in mass awareness, mass power and mass mobilisation for student.
They learn how to organise activities, meetings, processions and movements. They learn to follow and to lead.
This gives them an insight into the modern democratic system and shapes their personality to play a due share in the politics of the country.
These days, in almost all the institutions of Pakistan, unions exist for students. Students choose their own leader, from their manifestoes, and implement them. They put their demands before the higher authorities, collectively, through their representatives and make them realise their mass power.
The government is frequently toppled over as students become violent and educational institutions become the hotbeds of violence. Students fight with the law enforcement agencies. Thus this endless violence disturbs their studies.
Our education institutions is full of violent politics and our politics is self sufficient in breeding thugs and scoundrels. The cry of the hour is to introduce unions in our educational institutions in their true sense. It must be realised, by the students, that they are the future of the country and they should show reasonable behaviour so that they can take up the responsibilities of the state later.
