Prime Minister for uninterrupted power supply to Karachi

24 May, 2006

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said the Ministry of Water & Power should take all possible measures to avoid unannounced load-shedding in any part of the country, an official statement said.
The Prime Minister said this while talking to the Federal Minster for Water & Power Liaquat Ali Jatoi who called on him at the PM House on Tuesday. The Prime Minister also directed the Ministry of Water & Power to ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity to Karachi and remove any hurdles in power distribution to the city on priority basis.
Liaquat Ali Jatoi apprised the Prime Minister of the improved water situation in the country. He said because of recent rains and rise in temperature in the northern areas there was 2.5 million acre feet water available in the country, which was not only to meet the requirements of the Kharif crop but also enough to cater to the high demands of electricity. The country has surplus power and load shedding was done only places where maintenance work was being carried out.
The progress on major water projects in the country came under review in the meeting. While reviewing the working of Nespak, NPCC and other entities in the Ministry of Water & Power, the Prime Minister expressed satisfaction at the overall improvement in their performance.
