LHC sets aside capital punishment decision

24 May, 2006

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has set aside the decision of the additional district and session court awarding capital punishment to one Akbar Ali. The court has set aside the orders on the ground that there was no eyewitness against Akbar Ali.
The applicant counsel Rabiya Bajwa contended that the respondent court did not consider the case on merit and awarded capital punishment to the petitioner. It was prayed to the court to set aside the decision and also order release of the applicant. The court, after hearing the applicant counsel at length, accepted the appeal and set aside the orders in question.
