Sub-bodies formed to examine S&T, education sectors

The Senate Standing Committee on Education and Science and Technology which met here on Friday with Senator Mrs Razina Alam Khan in the chair has observed that putting education, science and technology in the priority sectors would place the country on the path of progress and prosperity.
This observation was made by Senator Razina Alam Khan chairperson of the committee while presiding over meeting of the committee which was convened to finalise its plan of action for the year 2006-2007.
The chairperson of the committee impressed upon the members of the committee to come out with viable suggestions. She sought input from the members of the committee for fixing priorities in these sectors for incorporation in the plan of action of the committee.
It was decided that the sub committee already constituted with Senator S.M. Zafar as its Convenor would review the University Act with a view to bring it in conformity with the present day requirements.
The members of the committee vowed to develop links with teachers' community to redress their grievances. They suggested that the committee should take suo moto action on issues pertaining to education, science and technology, which remained unattended in the past.
The committee decided to constitute two sub committees one for the province of Sindh and the other for Balochistan with a mandate to examine the status of education in these provinces and to put forward recommendation for an overall improvements in the sector.
The sub-committee for Sindh would be headed by Senator Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadi with Senators Dr Abdul Khaliq Prizada and Ammar Ahmed Khan as members while the sub committee for Balochistan would be headed by Senator Mrs Rehana Yahya Baloch with Senator Maulvi Agha Muhammad as member of the sub committee. The sub committee will submit their recommendation and suggestion within two months.
