Rawalpindi Police on Wednesday busted three gangs of criminals and recovered eight stolen cars besides unearthing a liquor factory. This was stated by District Police Officer (DPO) Rawalpindi Syed Saud Aziz, while briefing the newsmen about the progress of Rawalpindi Police here.
The DPO said that stealing of 30 vehicles a month in Rawalpindi is a normal matter and if the number crosses it is alarming. He said that police has succeeded in tracing the car lifters gang. He announced an award of Rs 10,000 each for the police team.
He said that the newly established Anti-Car Lifting Cell of Rawalpindi Police, headed by ASP Rizwan Manzoor responded quickly and arrested four members of an inter-provincial gang of car lifters with the help of NWFP government. The detained car lifters are Shakeel Ahmed, Tahir Mehmood, Shahzeb and Fazal alies Talha, he added.
He said that after investigation they handed over 8 vehicles including Pajero, Toyota 2 OD, Hilux, Mehran and Khyber models.
DPO said that another gang of kidnappers was also busted and four members of the gang including Ibrahim, Ijaz, Shaheen and Aasil were arrested. They were engaged in kidnapping people on gunpoint and forcing them to draw their money using ATM card. "We reached to the criminals after they kidnapped Colonel Qayyum and deprived him of Rs 52,000 and mobile phone", he added.
He said that a liquor factory was also unearthed.
