Lawyers observed strike on Thursday in protest against the high-handedness and misbehaviour of police towards lawyers. The Punjab Bar Council gave the call for a strike in which lawyers boycotted the courts and did not perform their professional duties. Black flags were hoisted atop the Bar rooms.
The protesting lawyers condemned maltreatment with a lawyer Abdul Razzaq Sahi by DPO and DSP Leiah, murderous attempt on former Bar President Shaikh Jamshaid Hayat by a notorious criminal Ghulam Rabbani, when he was being taken to court in police custody in Multan, kidnapping of a senior lawyer Muhammad Yahya and his family in Bahawalpur and assassination of Syed Sarwar Mehad Zaidi in Gujart.
High Court Bar Association President Mehmood Ashraf Khan said that police raided the chamber of a senior lawyer and former vice chairman of Pakistan Bar Council Mian Abbas Ahmed to apprehend the people who reached there to get legal relief.
