Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) candidates will win the next year's elections from Lyari and all the suburban areas of the metropolis. This was stated by Muttahida Chief Altaf Hussain in his telephonic address to a public meeting organised by MQM here at Kakri Ground on Saturday evening.
Describing the public gathering as a successful event, he said: "Presence of huge crowd from Lyari and outskirts of the city in today's meeting is testimony to MQM's victory in the coming general elections".
Altaf said people of Lyari are the ones who offered maximum sacrifices for one of the ruling parties of the country which only paid lip service and did not take any practical steps towards bringing development and improving the living standard of residents of this part of the city.
"Although MQM could 'not win any MNA or MPA seat in the 2002 elections from here, however, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad and City Nazim Mustafa Kamal have been executing uplift schemes and projects here without any discrimination" he pointed out.
Altaf said Mustafa Kamal has announced a development package of Rs 805 million for Lyari. Pointing to Lyari's biggest problem of water supply and sewerage, he said after the completion of 100 MGD K-III water supply project Lyari is now receiving additional 6-MGD water while Rs 240 million package has already been approved for laying of sewerage lines in its congested areas.
Projects worth Rs 370 million are also in the pipeline for construction of an improved road and street network in Lyari Town while eight different schemes will also be executed with Rs 90 million for development of other necessary facilities including those of education and health, the Muttahida chief said.
